61% of girls are either deeply ambivalent about leadership or say it’s not important to them.
39% of girls do say leadership is important to them.
21%—just one in five girls—believe they have what it takes to lead.
Negative influences abound, including peer pressure to not stand out; unhealthy images in the media about beauty; a lack of mentors; little support for girls with an interest in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM); and bullying. If this continues unchecked, millions of our girls may not reach their full potential as leaders in our society.
I Commit to do my part in supporting today’s girls—to achieve the goal of equal and balanced leadership tomorrow—I pledge to join ToGetHerThere by being a leader who inspires girls and:
o Becomes informed, learning about why we need to solve this issue for girls today and how a successful female leader positively impacts the world around her.
o Speaks-up for supportive environments in my community—for instance, advocating for healthy media images; helping to identify effective mentors; increasing girls’ involvement in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM); and joining the fight against bullying.
o Invests in girls to invest in our future.
Together, we can get her there.
