Job Title: Membership Specialist

To deliver direct services to volunteers to support the recruitment and retention of girl and adult members and to work directly with the volunteers to promote and support the Council’s financial and business goals.

  • Know and be able to articulate the mission, leadership experience, key message points and brand for Girl Scouting
  • Accountable for meeting (or exceeding) an annual membership goal for girl members
  • Evaluate member share, member potential and retention for the area
  • Analyze demographics and resources and use them in developing optimal delivery structure for the area including underserved girls
  • Utilize knowledge of community demographics in planning the girl and volunteer recruitment strategy with the volunteer team
  • Establish a written plan for retention of girls and adults in the area
  • Plan recruiting, retention, fund development, and community awareness activities
  • Facilitate and supervise the volunteer management system as defined by the Council – recruit, screen, select, place, develop, train, recognize and promote diversity and pluralism
  • Work with volunteers to set goals to increase delivery of program and retention
  • Provide excellent customer care and follow-up with volunteers
  • Establish the appropriate volunteer support team to meet goals
  • Collaborate with community organizations and the service units to develop program opportunities for girls
  • Accountable for a numerical financial goal for Parent’s Campaign and developing a written plan for achieving this goal
  • Update plan annually and maintain current community profiles with local demographics and data
  • Partner with the fund development staff to ensure the implementation of the Parent’s Campaign in the region
  • Develop internal relationships to ensure cross functional projects are delivered as needed – working with other departments to provide an integrated delivery system to the volunteers, program delivery, and training for the area
  • Represent the council in civic and community activities and organizations as needed
  • Must be able to work long or unusual hours, including nights and weekends
  • All other duties as assigned
  • Bachelor’s degree (preferred)
  • Ability to work well with people, network with staff and volunteers
  • Experience in managing multiple people including communicating, delegating, supporting
  • Experience and comfort level in fund raising
  • Volunteer Experience preferred
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills required
  • Skills in conflict management desired
  • Ability to adapt to changing situations
  • Ability to use technology and learn new technology applications
  • Expected to provide and wear the Girl Scout uniform when appropriate or on council business
  • Ability to speak Spanish - desirable
  • Must successfully complete an MVR, credit and criminal background check.
  • Must reside in the territory assigned or in close proximity in an adjacent county
  • Requires the physical mobility to sit or walk for moderate periods of time and to occasionally carry or lift objects weighing up to 30 pounds
