Metro Atlanta Girl Scouts Do Something Sweet for US Troops

By Kaliah Henton-Jones | cbsatlanta.com

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA (CBS ATLANTA) - The Girl Scouts in Metro Atlanta are doing something pretty sweet for U.S. troops stationed abroad.

Now that their annual cookie sales are over, they are packing and shipping 140,000 boxes of cookies to service members.

Girl Scout member Maddie Thornberry said, "Some people forget about the troops and the troops are what's keeping us safe. To be appreciated is always great and to send something back is giving."

"It's important because they fight overseas and I hope it will bring a smile to their faces," said Girl Scout Kailey Williams.

Tuesday's event in Lawrenceville is part of the Girl Scouts' Smiles 4 Military program, where members of the public donated a box of cookies for every one bought.
