Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta is proud to partner with Dove and Girl Scouts of the USA to launch Free Being Me, a leadership initiative focused on helping girls better understand global definitions of beauty, define beauty for themselves and boost their self-confidence in the process.
Free Being Me will help girls understand, from a global perspective, that a greater diversity of beauty exists and provide them the opportunity to take action to promote diversity to girls locally and globally. Importantly, Free Being Me can be used to introduce or enhance girls’ experiences along with the It’s Your Story—Tell It! leadership Journey series.
We encourage Girl Scouts to tell family and friends about this important issue and discuss what beauty means to people around the world. Also, download the Free Being Me Teaser Activity to help us keep track of how many people have viewed and downloaded! Our partnership includes tracking how many downloads we receive through our Website - so please direct others to our site, as well.
This global curriculum is also being used by our Girl Guiding sisters in the following countries:
- Asociación Guías Argentinas
- Girl Guides Australia
- Federação de Bandeirantes do Brasil
- Guias De Mexico
- Scouting Nederland (Netherlands)
- Girlguiding UK
For more information and background, visit the Free Being Me Website.
Every person age 7-24 who participates is eligible to receive a free participation patch. Contact Tiffany Tolbert, firstname.lastname@example.org for your free patches once the curriculum has been completed. Send leader contact info, program level and number of girls who completed the curriculum.
