My life at boarding school
By: Amelia S.
This academic year is my first year of high school and I’m starting it off at a boarding school in the North Georgia Mountains.
The main difference between a day school, like your school, and boarding school is that boarding schools are way stricter than day schools. The teachers are stricter on homework, sports, and of course your daily life activities like keeping a clean room and what time you go to bed. Fortunately I believe, this is the only down side to boarding school.
There are countless pluses to boarding school, such as it’s virtually impossible to be late to school. Another one is that your teachers are always around if you need help studying or help with your homework.
I think the best part about boarding school is living with your friends. Your friends take the place of your family. Your friends are there for you when your sad or stressed, and they’re always willing to help you.
How to look good in photographs

Looking good in pictures can be tricky. The wrong light, the wrong camera angle or the wrong background can all make you look less than photogenic. Luckily, there are a few simple things that you can do to help make sure that every picture you are in is a good one!
First of all, if you know that you are going to have your picture taken, wear bright solid colors. Pale colors can washout your skin and patterns can be distracting. Certain colors look better on certain people so check out some old pictures to figure out what looks best on you.
It also helps to stand at a slight angle. This creates a much more flattering silhouette for the picture. You should also try to figure out your best side. It’s usually the side that you part your hair but you can easily tell which side is your best by looking in the mirror. This is the side that you want to present to the camera.
Try not to use a cheesy grin. You want to look natural in your pictures. Smile with your eyes. Smiles can look faked and awkward if your smile doesn’t reach your eyes. Think of something that makes you genuinely happy while having your picture taken and channel that happiness into your smile to avoid having your smile look forced.
Most importantly, just relax. If you look tense, this will come out in the pictures. Have fun with it!
How to get designer brands at thrift store prices

Could this be you? Hearing how the bad economy is affecting people never really hit home. You’re not worrying about getting laid-off or evicted. Everything has pretty much been the same for you until you go to the mall and see a super cute and not to mention super expensive top you want and you hear your mom say, “We just can’t afford that right now.”
So what do you do? We have the solution! For fast ways to earn money and easy-on-your-wallet ways to spend it, keep on reading.
The first step to earning money is getting a job. The legal age to work in Georgia is 14 years old. At 14, you can apply to work at small, independent stores. One of the rare exceptions is Chick-fil-a, which hires workers as young as 14 years old. Before 14, you can do regular housework and yard work for neighbors as a way to earn money. Baby-sitting is always an option at any age! Be sure you take a babysitting course when you have a chance. You can find the classes athttp://www.atlantaredcross.org.
Once you’re 16 you have the option to work at any store. Wherever you work, make sure you like the job that you’re doing and not just the money! Keep in mind wherever you work that employee discounts are always a nice bonus.
You can also take any of your old clothes you don’t want and sell them at a consignment store. Some of the profits from the store will go to you. You can sell more valuable products on sites such as eBay or Craig’s List.
Once you’ve saved up money and feel the need to go on a shopping spree, you need to know where the best buys are. You can register on the site www.shopittome.com and they will e-mail you coupons every week for stores you selected. Plus, get ten or more friends to register with you, and you’ll get a free $10 gift card to your favorite store!
Instead of shopping at stores with widely known names, try shopping at small boutiques or stores that are known for good prices. You’ll find almost the same things, the only difference being that you aren’t paying for the labels. For instance, instead of going to the mall and shopping at American Eagle where you’ll be sure to empty your wallet in a flash, you can go to T.J. Maxx and find American Eagle shirts for half the price. Not to mention shoes! A would-be $200 pair of Coach shoes can be found at T.J. Maxx for only $20.
No one wants to cut back on shopping. Hopefully with these tips, you will have a fresh look for every season and a little cash in your pocket too.

The latest “it” accessory is not an expensive ring or a cute bag, it’s a guitar shaped rubber band. Colorful rubber bands shaped like animals, food and other objects, Silly Bandz have taken America by storm. Everywhere you look, someone is wearing a Silly Band and most likely more than one. Kids and adults both seem to be entranced by the thin rubber bands that have become the latest fad in America. So how did this fad come to be? Robert Croak, owner of Toledo, Ohio-based BCP Imports brought the idea of Silly Bandz to America all the way from Japan in 2002. The first Silly Bandz were sold in 2008 and have gained attention ever since.
Silly Bandz are this generation’s version of previous fads such as slap bracelets, chokers, and LiveStrong bracelets. This leads us to the question of how does something become as popular as Silly Bandz or the previous fads? The answer is strategic marketing.
Anything has the potential to be successful if it is marketed well. Marketing doesn’t have to be used by business; anyone can market a product to start a fad. So if you want to put Silly Bandz in the past and start a new trend, go for it!
What will be the new fad in America? However, when Silly Bandz join slap bracelets, chokers and LiveStrong bracelets in the fad archives, I’ll be keeping my dinosaur bracelet.
