According to the American Camp Association, camp is a place to embrace the natural environment, promote community, teach critical thinking and create future leaders. The Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta offers year-round camp experiences that promote these essential life skills in the outdoor setting.
In the words of a Girl Scout camper who grew into a Girl Scout summer camp staff person,
"Camp is a unique and life-changing experience for everyone involved. Each time you go, you are surrounded by new people, participate in new activities, and learn an incredible amount about yourself. Growing up, I spent most of my summers at Girl Scout Camp, and every summer was wonderful in a completely different way. As both a camper and camp employee, I've become more confident, outgoing, and comfortable with who I am. I can sincerely say that camp is one of my favorite places to be." – Past camper/Current counselor
Discover the out of doors through a wide variety of activities and experiences. Plan a progression of activities at camp to set girl and adult Girl Scouts up for success in the outdoors.
Day events allow troops to register for a day only experience planned by Council camp staff. All activities are planned and delivered by the Council camp staff. A day trip to camp is a great introduction to the camp community for girls and adults.
Council Operated and Volunteer Operated day camp is a week long experience in the out of doors that provides girls and adults and extended camp stay while sleeping in their own bed at night. Day camps are offered in local communities by Girl Scout adult volunteers as well as at Council operated camps throughout the summer.
Equestrian Activities are popular with Girl Scouts of all ages. Experienced staff and volunteers teach the girls about horse care, stable management and both English and Western riding during year-round programs and summer camps. The council offers an affordable opportunity for girls to ride and learn about horses as well as valuable experiences that help build courage and confidence while teaching the responsibility of caring for horses.
Weekend events allow troops to register for a one or two night camp experience planned by Council camp staff. All activities and most meals are provided. This beginning experience is a great way to build adult and girl confidence in the camp environment.
Troop camping allows Girl Scout troops to reserve a tent or cabin site, plan their camping trip from start to finish, and explore the natural world together. Troops may request troop camp activities, such as canoeing, horseback riding, climbing wall or lake study, to enhance outdoor exploration while camping. Troop camping builds upon the weekend event experience. While the Council camp staff provided all the activities at the event, now the girls and adults plan and execute the weekend.
Service Unit Camporees are a community building opportunity for Girl Scout troops within a geographic area, or service unit, to connect with each other while discovering the out of doors. Troops in your community camp together while enjoying great camp activities and meals provided by the Council camp staff.
Summer Overnight Camp is an opportunity for girls to spend time at camp on their own or with a friend. Overnight campers use the skills they learned from troop camping, day camp and other group camping experiences to build independence away from their parents and Girl Scout family.
